Another day of exciting quizzing was what awaited us at Bhavans Varuna Vidyalaya on October 2nd, Friday. The teams slowly trickled in as we made arrangements and by 10 o’clock, all was in place for the third leg of EQL to begin. The prelims questions produced a lot of gasps as teams just couldn’t bring out the answers at the tip of their tongue. Seventeen out of twenty five is some domination, especially when the next best is some five points behind. The prelims toppers from Harishree really astonished the whole crowd.
Harishree and Bhavans Adarsha had two teams each in the finals while teams from Vidyodaya and Bhavans Elamakkara were represented by 1 team each. It was heartbreaking to see many teams miss the cut by a whisker. The finals were a closely fought affair, with each team trying to surge ahead. It was a nail-biting finish and we ended up having a tie for the 3rd place. Abhijeet and Sachin from Harishree took the top honours. The team from Bhavans Elamakarra came a close second.
What better way to spend a Friday holiday than engage yourselves in some serious yet fun packed quizzing. Thats exactly what we all did. Waiting eagerly to see u all and do it all over again. Happy quizzing!!!

LETS DO A QUIZ ON THE 'ALL BUZZER' CONCEPT....
It separates the teams who actually knows an answer from guessers...and if no one is sure guesses are also acceptable in this system..

Have to disagree with what Ravi said. Quizzing t is not just about learning the answers by heart.It involves application in other words guessing as well.

No genuine quizzer learns stuff by heart. Quizzing not equal to memory test.
And application and guessing could also be done is this system...who's stopping u fro guessing. All i'm saying is it removes the element of luk from the quiz..
Fr Eg. You are well versed in a particular topic. U kno more abt it bcoz u r interested in it and learn more. And one fine day...in a quiz a question pops up on that topic. Ur biting ur nails and waiting fr the q to come ur way...and some dumb team takes a guess and spoils ur chance...who's the loser here.
I jst hate seeing tht....quizzing must also be abt quick refelexes.
And we'll jst try it fr one quiz. Plssss...enquire team.

Come on. Don't be a sore loser. All I am trying to say is that the all buzzer concept would depend more on quick memory rather than good thinking. And the last time I checked you were the one who said that quizzing is no memory test. On that I agree with you.
And as for the dumb team which spoilt your chance, they are entitled to their luck as you would be one fine day.
And all buzzers would cancel the possibility of ingenuine and funny answers and I would hate to see that.

Ingenuine answers are not impossible on a buzzer when none of the teams are sure of an answer....

We all have our opinion, don't we. Anyway, I am bored of this debate. I want some rounds to be buzzers, not all. As for the showdown on stage, we will have one sooner than you think. As for the anonymous part, dude, revealing myself now would not be fun would it?
And the funny answers part was just to make you sweat.I am a hellishly serious quizzer and winning is just a habit.
Nice to see a heated debate going on here. Personally I find much joy in the whole guessing part of a quiz. Its one of the main attractions of the quizzes that "Enquire" conducts. Most folks who guess and get correct answers need atleast some info about the topic(hence they needn't be dumb). Unless of course the question is generic like "which cricketer did this..." and a team picks a random cricketer and gets it right. But such teams don't generally have a lucky streak long enough to enable them to win a quiz. It does take some amount of ability to figure out things with limited information. I believe that a general quiz that focuses exclusively on prior knowledge is indistinguishable from an examination with infinitely large portions.
And the fact about "nerds" coming to quizzes. I feel that a large number of us are nerds. We all have our obscure interests. A lot of us are are the "stereotypical bookworms" according to our "not so enlightened" friends and so on. Of course there are exceptions, but not all of us are athletic, guitar-toting demigods :D
Btw, these are my personal opinions and may stem from the fact that I am just a mediocre quizzer who goes to quizzes because they are fun. It also seems to sync with my passion for all things of the inane, insane and the mundane(among others) variety. And there is indeed "much pleasure to be gained from useless knowledge".

@LYFE : U said tht a person needs some previous info. We'll then he can mak use of it in a buzzer system too. Ur an enquirer, Pls expt one quiz on this system.
Don't worry man. I am certainly not in the fifties. As for aqua regia, i will see you on the stage. Only difference is that I will know you but you won't. As for preparing, I suggest you start studying from now cos you are gonna need it.
